Day One Half Marathon Training....

My 2.5 year old border collie x Australian kelpie

ok, I think I'm going to be addicted to this blogging thing.. but whatever...

I used to run all the time, I started running with a girl friend of mine who wanted to do a half marathon before she turned 40 (just to be clear, I am not 40... nothing wrong with being 40 but I am 33). So... we started running and I am not built for running I have short stubby legs.. but I am ridiculously competitive especially with myself. I did my first half marathon that year before I did my first 10k race! I was addicted to running! I did 6 half marathons that year. My friend and I decided to do a full marathon and raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. We raised almost $12,000 and went to San Diego for our run. It was an incredibly amazing experience, however... I was done after that. Before our run I got a stress fracture in my left ankle. I had to take a month off before our run ( I would have normally cancelled but with all the travel costs put out and money donated that wasn't an option). I ran on my stress fracture, it was brutal.. it took me 5hours when I originally was aiming for 4:15. I was happy I did it, but my body was so broken afterwards I wanted nothing to do with running.
Since then I've just done small runs here and there, nothing over 16k. So here we are a year and a half after the marathon and I'm jacked to be signed up for a half marathon. I will never ever ever do another full marathon... but I'm happy to do the half.

So training starts today, I drank too much last night and couldn't sleep this morning from the booze sugar rush I get! Me and my trusty little running companion... MAUZY went for a 4k run. She is a running partner who never says no. She is a 3.5 year old border collie/kelpie. We bought her from a working ranch and she is completely obsessed with running.
